Encaustic Paintings

An ancient medium that inspires nostalgia.

Encaustic paint is an Ancient Greek medium using beeswax, resin, and pigment. This medium is only used in a molten state. The hot wax is applied to the surface, building layers that are fused together. This creates a versatile and luminous surface.

In this medium, Curry will embed or layer objects, such as 100-year old wallpaper or photo transfer found photographs from the last century, into the wax medium. Old memories are honored to inspire new ones. In other series, she will use minimal materials and space to create intimacy and reflection.
